Together Everyone Achieves More

Athletics at a Glance

Athletic skill development, fitness, and sportsmanship are at the forefront of our athletic program. Our philosophy incorporates the expectation that every child who chooses to participate will be an integral part of the team. At Brawerman we believe “Together Everyone Achieves More" or TEAM.

Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.

Our skillful, experienced, and knowledgeable coaching staff work with students in our multi-sport gym and outdoor playing field.

As participants in the Coastal Canyon League, with a full schedule of basketball, volleyball, flag football, soccer, and track-and-field activities, students learn the lessons of competition, both winning and losing. However, caring for teammates, respect for the other team, and pride in good sportsmanship are equally important. We encourage our athletes to play skillfully, competitively, and passionately, while never losing sight of the values that are so important in the Brawerman community.

The Brawerman After School Athletics Program is open to all students in Grades 4, 5, and 6.

BARRY SCHAPIRA

Founding Educator & Head Coach

What is your favorite memory from when you first started at Brawerman?

When the founding Head of School Nadine Breuer was showing me around the campus and she first brought me into the gym. She said, “This is where you’ll be working,” and I was blown away. I had a sense that I was given a beautiful platform to potentially impact
kids' lives and inspire them to always bring their best.

How have you seen Brawerman change over the last 20 years?

I’ve seen it grow not only in size, but also in quality. I have the best colleagues, the best administration, and the greatest students.

What motivates you to keep teaching year after year at Brawerman?

I love Brawerman and I love teaching PE. Put those things together, and you get 20 years. Having the opportunity for my students to develop the confidence, teamwork, and joy of movement to live healthy, active lifestyles is truly a blessing.

What do you think makes Brawerman so special?

Brawerman is oozing with class, is the epitome of dedication and community, and is like a second family for me. More importantly, Brawerman is a Jewish home—so nurturing and full of warmth, spirit, soul—and always welcoming to guests.

Can you share a quote or saying that you live your life by and perhaps share with your students?

among the stars.”
