Our mathematics program is centered on two goals. The first is to provide a sound foundation in basic mathematical facts and skills through meaningful practice and reinforcement. The second is to provide varied, thought-provoking opportunities for students to apply the mastery of those facts and skills in real-world situations requiring problem solving. As students master the fundamentals of mathematics, they grow in their capacity for critical thinking, problem solving, and logic.

Reading: Intentional instruction is designed to nurture a love of literacy with a focus on phonics, comprehension, reading analysis, and depth of understanding using small, flexible groups.

Writing: Through a workshop model, student-centered instruction focuses on using mentor texts and providing ongoing feedback to help students deepen understanding of fiction and non-fiction writing skills.

Our curriculum is woven into interdisciplinary units providing an in-depth look at ourselves and our community. Social Studies lessons often extend beyond the classroom, with carefully planned field trips integrated into our units of study, allowing students to experience their learning in real-world contexts while promoting an understanding and appreciation of the world. 

Hebrew instruction focuses on second language acquisition, while helping students build a connection to Israel through language, cultural lessons, food, music, and more. Students have Hebrew class four times each week. 

Our Judaic Studies program nurtures the mind and soul, emphasizing Jewish values and Israel education. During a weekly learning block, students learn about the holidays, Torah, and other Jewish texts, studying the underlying values, discussing moral questions, and growing their Jewish identity.

Each morning, out whole school gathers briefly to say Modeh Ani, as a way to connect each morning. Students also gather on Mondays for an all-school Havdalah ceremony and spend time in our historic sanctuary for T'filah. On Fridays, Brawerman East students and families end our school week together during an afternoon Kabbalat Shabbat service.
