History

Brawerman Elementary School opened its doors in 1999 with an inaugural class of 10 Kindergarten students. Today, Brawerman Elementary is a distinguished, fully accredited K-6 school with two locations, one on the Westside at Olympic and Barrington, and the other on the landmark Temple campus on Wilshire Boulevard in Koreatown.

The founding of Brawerman Elementary School fulfilled the dream of Rabbi Harvey Fields, then Senior Rabbi of Wilshire Boulevard Temple, to build a Jewish elementary school of the highest standards. Nadine Breuer, an accomplished educator, provided the creative vision, extensive experience, and strong leadership skills as the Founding Head of School. Nadine led a team of educators, parents, clergy, and community members to build the infrastructure and support the growth and development of what would become the Geri and Richard Brawerman Elementary School of Wilshire Boulevard Temple, thanks to the beneficence and foresight of The Brawerman Family.

Nadine Breuer retired in 2016 and Brandon Cohen, a distinguished teacher and innovative administrator, succeeded her as Head of School.

In 2023, the Schools of Wilshire Boulevard Temple made a strategic decision that the East and West sides of town would operate with more autonomy from one another in order to better serve the students, faculty, and families on each campus.

With this change, Gillian Feldman, one of Brawerman East's founding administrators, became the Head of School of Wilshire Schools East, the home of Brawerman Elementary School East and Glazer Early Childhood Center on the Erika J Glazer Campus.  Brandon Cohen is now the Head of School for Brawerman Elementary School West on the Irmas Campus. Gillian has a deep history with the Temple and has been integral to the growth and success of both Brawerman campuses.

Brawerman East

Brawerman Elementary School East opened its doors in 2011 at the historic Wilshire Boulevard Temple Erika J. Glazer Campus, originally dedicated in 1929. With an inaugural class of 18 Kindergarten students, Brawerman East is now a full, small-by-design Kindergarten through Grade 6 elementary school with more than 100 students.

Brawerman East students experience an cutting-edge academic curriculum, social-emotional learning, and a wide array of specialist classes.  The historic synagogue inspires learning and a strong sense of Jewish identity. Brawerman East fuses the past, the present, and the future into a compelling curriculum that prepares students to become tomorrow's leaders and innovators, while developing their moral compass and sense of self.

With its redevelopment completed in 2015, Brawerman East's campus features state-of-the-art classrooms, a science lab, innovation lab, art studio, music room, library, Hebrew language center, garden, playground, and a roof-top athletic complex with basketball courts and a soccer field.

Brawerman East students also connect to the local community through on-campus programming at the Wallice Annenberg GenSpace and Karsh Social Services Center.
