Volunteer Opportunities

Parent Association Committees:



Joint Nursery/Elementary Committees:

  • Book Fair: Assist in planning and producing the school Book Fair.


  • Boutique: Assist in planning and producing the school Holiday Boutique.


  • Challah: Collect challah orders and participate in its distribution each Friday during the school year.


  • Directory: Assist in the development of the School Directory at the beginning of the school year. In addition to addresses and phone numbers, the Directory includes class rosters, school calendars, the Parents’ Association Board and a listing of administrators.


  • Fundraising: Assist in planning and producing the Parents’ Association’s Adult Dinner and Silent Auction.


  • Lunch Programs: Assist in coordinating the students’ school lunch program.


  • Santa Monica Pier Event: Assist in planning and producing the Santa Monica Pier family event held in the spring.


  • Tikkun Olam: Assist with various school-related community service projects, including assorted drives. One Chair from each school acts as liaison to the Temple’s Tikkun Olam committee and attends bimonthly evening meetings held on the Westside
    (the meeting schedule is set far in advance, and Chairs are welcome to take turns). The purpose of these meetings is to facilitate communication within the Temple community. Chairs will help publicize programs within their respective schools.


  • Volunteer Coordinators: Assist in compiling and maintaining the parent volunteer list based on responses to the Parent Participation Form sent home at the beginning of the summer. Work with the committee chairs by supplying appropriate volunteers for their committees. This job begins in June and ends in October.


Elementary School-Only Committees:

  • Bulletin/Entryway: Assist in the creation of displays outside school office at the beginning of each month containing school events and news. Assist in decorating the school entryway with artwork created by the students in conjunction with the art teacher(s).


  • Carpool/Elevator: Coordinate parent volunteers to staff carpool line at morning drop-off throughout the school year. Coordinate parent elevator volunteers so that Grades 4-6 may take the elevator to the third floor each morning.


  • Emergency Preparedness: Organize and maintain an up-to-date emergency phone tree for the Elementary School.


  • Hospitality: Assist in coordinating refreshments and room set-up for school-related functions (Parent Association meetings, welcome breakfasts and grade-level coffees). This committee also provides the food and sets up the room for Tours for Prospective Parents.


  • Incoming Families: Assist in planning and producing events to welcome families into our school including a Welcome Shabbat, Parent Dinner and Orientation, a group play-date and our Host Family program.


  • Library: Assist the librarian as needed, work with a committee to organize book drives and other library-related events sponsored by the Parents’ Association.


  • Logo Wear: Assist in designing and manufacturing logo wear items, collect orders from parents, and coordinate the distribution of the items.


  • Mitzvah Reps: Oversee the mitzvah representatives in each classroom. If families with mitzvah events are in both schools, Chairs will coordinate efforts.


  • Room Reps: Oversee and direct the activities of the parent room reps in each class.


  • Sports Day: Assist in planning and producing a school-wide sports day.


  • Staff Meetings: Assist in providing refreshments for afternoon staff meetings.


  • Student Events: Work with the administration coordinating various student-oriented events, including Career Day, VIP Day, Read Across America, and Passover Model Seders.


  • Teacher Appreciation: Assist in planning and producing the adult-only, evening event which honors Brawerman teachers and school staff.


  • Yearbook: Assist in planning and producing the school’s yearbook. Committee subcategories include: design, content, layout and photography.
